Wednesday night’s MLS
match between Orlando City and Montreal in Quebec was only 10 percent in the
books when it went verifiably and 100 percent MLS bonkers. The league, which has
a knack for producing quality midweek entertainment, saw Didier Drogba score on
a free kick inside of the first minute — no doubt helped by mind-boggling
goalkeeping from Joe Bendik — before Brek Shea tied it up.

Gang leader uses charm, knows when targeted victims have money – Robbery suspect
One Segun Taiwo, an alleged member of the two-man robbery syndicate nabbed in
Lagos State has confessed to the crime.
Taiwo was arrested at the weekend by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS of the state Police Command for allegedly robbing an 81-year-old woman in her apartment at Oduduwa Street in the Itire area of the state.
The syndicate robbed their unnamed victim of a box containing assorted jewelry and a total sum of N7m.
In his confession before reporters at the RRS’s Headquarters, Taiwo said his ringleader who is now at large, masterminded the crime.
He said, “The ring leader is an herbalist who invited me into the robbery and promised to give me 50 percent from the loot.”
On how they got clue before carrying out the operation, Taiwo said, “The mastermind is a herbalist. He was treating one of the woman’s daughters who had sore in her right foot.
“Whenever the lady visited him for treatment, he was always stylishly collecting information about her mother from her.
“Unknown to the lady, he had collected all necessary descriptions and information needed to perpetuate the robbery. After a while, he told me that we have a special operation.
“He further told me that his patient (the woman’s daughter) must not be aware because we were going to their house to rob her mother.
“We carried out the robbery successfully. We gained entrance into the two-storey building and headed straight to the old woman’s flat.
“From our preliminary investigation, we got to know that the first flat opposite the entrance gate was theirs. We went straight inside the flat without any stress. We met our victim sitting on the prayer mat inside the living room.
“We dragged and threatened her with cutlass and axe to surrender all her belongings including foreign currencies with her or else we will waste her life; so she cooperated with us and handed over a bag filled with both Nigeria and foreign currencies.
“We also forcefully collected her gold jewelry box but on our way out, we
overheard the voice of the old woman who was crying and shouting for help.
“Unknown to us, RRS operatives who were patrolling the area, overheard her voice. As we were rushing out to escape from the house, the operatives sighted us and we took to our heels.
“Immediately, the policemen made a hot chase which led to my arrest and my accomplice managed to escape with the local and foreign currencies while the jewelry box was retrieved from me.”
Taiwo recounted their earlier operation and how they went about it.
He said, “Before now, we have robbed one innocent man along Okota Road of his N200, 000. My gang leader is a very powerful herbalist. He uses charms and knows when you have money on you.
“The first day I followed him to rob was a day when we went to Okota Road. On getting there, he saw one man along Okota Road, and he pointed at the man and told me the man had money on him. We moved closer to the man and he recited some incantations, and to my surprise, that man handed over his money to us.
“Out of that money, he gave me just N11, 000,” Taiwo added.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Superintendent of Police, SP Dolapo Badmus, who paraded the suspect, said “The command is making effort to arrest the gang leader.
“Police will leave no stone unturned to nip crimes at bud in the state.
“The suspect has been transferred to Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, for further investigation,” the PPRO stated.

Nigerians are hypocrites, they condemn me for wearing T-shirt but hail Zuckerberg – Fayose
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has reacted to some state and burning
national issues.
In his regular #FayoseSpeak series, the governor disclosed that he will be going round the local governments to monitor workers to ensure they resumed at their offices.
Speaking on the state of the economy, he said “If your salary is N100,000, know fully now that you are collecting N50.000 all because of the economy recession in the country, what you are buying in market is now times three of the initial price “Soon there would be free health care across the state because majority couldn’t afford hospital bill due to the current economy recession.
“LG autonomy is a must and there is no going back on it here in Ekiti because the LG must be allowed to function.
“Because of bad state of the country’s economy, a lot of Nigerians can no longer afford medicare. People are now going to spiritualists to seek treatment for their ailments.
“Whatever I do, they will condemn. When I wore T-shirt to the House of Assembly, they said I didn’t dress properly. But when the Facebook founder came to Nigeria, wearing T-shirt and jeans, they hailed him. They said he was humble. Hypocrites, that’s what they are.
“They are worried because what they failed to do, I am doing and they will remain in that state of worries.
“I declare whatever comes to Ekiti from the Federation Account every month
and technology has even made it compulsory for leaders to be transparent. If I
don’t tell Ekiti people what their monthly income is, they can always get it on
the Internet.
“On Ekiti State at 20, I want to thank God specially. When Ekiti was 10, I was the governor, I’m also governor when Ekiti will be 20.
“Ekiti people should come out and x-ray those that have ruled this State and tell the world who impacted most on the state.
“Of all the governors put together, Fayemi got the highest fund. His govt got more money than Adebayo, Oni and my govt put together.
“Most of the landmark projects in Ekiti State were done by me.
“Since 2014 October that I assumed office, we have not had any political killing in Ekiti.”

Ondo people are bastards, betrayers – APC aspirant blasts after losing primary
A governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ondo state,
Jamiu Afolabi Ekungba, has reportedly described people of the state as bastards,
saying he will never help an Ondo indegine going forward.
Ekungba made the statement after he lost out in the party’s primary election held during the weekend.
About 23 aspirants under the APC filed out for the primary election which saw Rotimi Akeredolu emerging as the winner, polling 669 votes. Dr. Segun Abraham emerged as the second with a total of 635 votes.
The aspirant from Owo, upon realizing that he scored less than 50 votes stormed out of the venue of the primary election and caused a scene.
He further vowed never to help any indigene of the state because he was badly treated at the election.
Ekungba was quoted as saying, “I am highly disappointed in the people of
Ondo, they are bastards and betrayals,” he reportedly said, adding that the
people turned their backs on him when it mattered most and after he had spent
over N300 million on them.
“They deceived me. I spent over N300million naira on reaching out to each of the delegates alone.
“Even before the primaries, I had spent millions of naira. After collecting my money, they gave me just 44 votes.
“From today, I will never help any Ondo State indigene. I’ll rather give out my money to the Hausa beggars on the street.”

I’m not a nonentity as your abominable mother made you believe – Oduah’s estranged husband replies son
The estranged husband of the former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah –
Lieutenant Colonel Satchie Ayomike Etoromi (rtd.), has responded to the rant by
his son, Tuoyo Etoromi Oduah.
Following the death of Oduah’s 28-year-old son, Maxwell Toritseju Etoromi, Tuoyo had called out his father, accusing him of being an attention seeker over his brother (Toritseju’s) death.
It would be recalled that Etoromi, after his son’s death had said: “I read about the death of my son in the newspaper, I was not informed by Stella that my son that was delivered on 14th March, 1988, in St. Mary`s Hospital, Ugboroke, Warri, is dead. So, I have sent a letter calling Stella, my ex-wife, to bring my son, who was under her custody, to me for burial in Warri.
“Till now, Stella has not told me my son in her custody is dead,” he had said.
But reacting to this, his son, Tuoyo said he would rather be a bastard than to be called his father’s son.
Tuoyo had, in a letter to his father, a copy of which was made available to newsmen, disowned his father, insisting that his father was seeking cheap publicity over his claims.
But the retired Army officer has fired back at his son, imploring him to retrace his steps and not allow himself to be used by his mother.
He also urged appropriate security agencies to help in investigating the death of his son, as he suspects foul play.
In a statement, Chief Etoromi told his son: “Eyituoyo my son, they have misled you.
“When Omabuwa came home last year, Stella, your mother told me to call you to come home. She gave me your phone number. She said you were in the United States of America and don’t answer calls.
“All calls to that your phone were not answered. I believe Omabuwa was killed, that is why Stella refused to tell me. The stories about how Stella took you away need not be told now. The grief that my son, Omabuwa, who was contacted by your junior sister, Valentina Omawumi Etoromi, and who came home, is dead is too much a pain for me now.
“Stella should bring our kids home. I want to bury Omabuwa who is now late,
and you my lovely son, Eyituoyo should come home.
“I married Stella traditionally and under Ibo marriage law, every child she has before my dowry is returned belongs to me. It is Stella and not yourself who should tell me that my son, Omabuwa, your senior brother is dead.
“You said you offered flight tickets and accommodation to attend the burial and funeral of my son. Burial where? Do you have flight infrastructure at Akili Ozizor now? Is it Ibo culture for a woman whose dowry was paid to take her children’s corpse to her home town? That is an abomination from an abominable person. The controversies surrounding Omabuwa’s death will be investigated.
“My son, do not allow yourself to be dragged into what you do not have knowledge. Could it be that Omabuwa was killed because he came home? This is not the time to talk. May the Almighty God grant us His mercies, show us light that will make us know the truth. Amen.
“Eyituoyo, I am not Mr. Satchie Etoromi. I was commissioned into the Nigerian Army and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before Stella came into my life. I was also conferred with a chieftaincy title when she was with me. It is a pity that you were not told my status in life. You will know I am not a nonentity as you were made to believe.
“My marriage with Stella was not short. She moved out of our home 19 years ago and so her telling you she divorced me 30 years ago is another big lie. How old are you? So why did she tell you all these lies? I am an incorruptible and disciplined officer and gentleman and you shall be proud that my blood flows in your veins when the truth becomes public knowledge.
“I was a polygamous man before Stella married me. I married many wives and it is a custom of our people.
“His Royal Highness, Igwe Oduah 1 of blessed memory had many wives too, so what did I do wrong? When Stella took you and everything away, in humility I prayed for the Almighty God’s mercy.
“Must she not do the needful and bring you to me? The Almighty God shall judge. I am your father. Bring Omabuwa home and come with him. I am not threatening you nor your mother.
“May the Almighty God bless you my son. All will be well,” the retired Army officer added

Man dies trying to fix faulty generator in Umuahia
Mr Ogbonnaya Nta, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Abia, has
confirmed the death of Mr Chinweoda Ndubuisi, a pastor with Foursquare Gospel
Church in Umuahia, the Abia capital.
Nta told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Umuahia on Thursday that Ndubuisi, who was in his early 40s, died in an explosion from a faulty generator in his residence.
He said that Ndubuisi was trapped in the fire resulting from the explosion which occurred in the presence of a generator repairer while trying to fix the generator.
Nta said that the incident occurred at Plot 100, Nkwerre Street, Umuahia, on Wednesday evening.
He said that the deceased engaged the repairer to work on the generating set and that it suddenly caught fire while they were still trying to kick-start it.
According to the PPRO, fire and smoke engulfed the corner under a staircase, where the generator was securely chained to an iron
protector.
He said that while the repairer, who reportedly stood close to the exit door managed to escape, the deceased could not.
A friend of the deceased told NAN on the condition of anonymity on phone that although his neighbours rallied round to put out the fire, it was difficult to rescue the deceased.
He said that efforts made to drag the burning generator from under the
staircase by the rescue team were unsuccessful because it was chained.
“By the time the fire was put out completely, the man was already dead,” Nta said, adding that his remains were later taken to a mortuary after he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
“He died on the spot from burns and suffocation from the generator fume,” he said.
NAN learnt that the repairer sustained minor burns on his hands and other parts of his body and was taken to an undisclosed hospital in the area. (NAN)

Ogun shut 3 hospitals over death of two pregnant women
The Ogun Government on Thursday ordered the immediate closure of three hospitals
for allegedly engaging in quackery and causing the death of two pregnant women
during delivery.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Babatunde Ipaye, ordered the closure of Shepherd Clinic and Maternity, Ayo Ni Medical Centre and Dayo Maternity Home, all in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
Ipaye, represented by the Deputy Director, Hospital Services, Dr Solomon Shokunbi, said the two pregnant women bled to death because they were attended to by quack doctors.
He explained that one of the deceased was initially admitted at Dayo Maternity Home, before she was referred to Ayo Ni Medical Centre, where she later died after efforts by the former to deliver the baby proved abortive.
The commissioner decried the criminal and inhuman activities of the quack medical doctors and said government had since begun the registration and revalidation of all private hospitals in the state.
He said that no fewer than 43 private health facilities were shut for
non-compliance with regulations.
Ipaye advised people in the state to heed government’s warning by not patronising quacks and unlicensed health facilities.
He also urged the public to report any activity of quack doctors or other medical personnel in their communities or call the hotline of the Department of Hospital Services on 07054368055. (NAN
