Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria Pays A Courtsey Visit To The State DSS
The Directorate of State Security (DSS) has urged media practitioners, especially bloggers to see themselves as stakeholders in the Nigerian project.
This assertion was made on Wednesday by the Lagos State Director of the Agency when a delegation of Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria (GPBN), led by its President Chris Kehinde Nwandu (CKN) paid a courtesy visit to the State Headquarters of the Security Agency in Lagos.
Represented by her Deputy, Mr Ahmed, the DSS asked the media to act as partners with Security Agencies in the country to rid Nigeria of criminals and undesirable elements as it is the norm in advanced countries.
The Agency which frowned at the level of crime being perpetrated by some unpatriotic Nigerians stated that the rate of crime in Nigeria compared to what is obtainable in other advanced countries is not as high as being magnified by the media.
He enjoined media practitioners to see themselves first and foremost as Patriots, this according to him should reflect on its news delivery especially when reporting sensitive issues bordering on National interest.
The DSS promised that its doors are always wide open to all Nigerians at any given time to volunteer information that will lead to the prevention of crime in whatever form.
He commended the idea behind the formation of Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria; urging Bloggers to always verify all information being published in order avoid unnecessary litigations.
On its part, the Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria urged the Agency to open a more robust means of communication for Nigerians to report issues relating to crime without unnecessarily endangering their lives when such privileged information gets into the hands of same people being accused. They urged the Agency to build more confidence and trust in Nigerians so that they will be willing to volunteer information without endangering their lives
The GPBN according to its President, Chris Kehinde Nwandu was formed in order to streamline the practice of Blogging and Online Media Practices.
Its aims and objectives are to bring some level of Professionalism into the Profession bearing in mind inherent ethical behaviours.

The Association pledged to support the efforts of the DSS and other relevant Security Agencies towards achieving their core mandates and desired results.
It also seeks the support of the Security Agency in the area of unhindered access to information on the activities of the Agency as the law establishing the Agency permits.

Release Kemi Olunloyo unconditionally – Foreign journalists tell police
A group of New York-based journalists operating under the umbrella of Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has called for the immediately and unconditionally release of blogger, Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo and newspaper publisher, Samuel Welson.
In a statement signed and issued on Friday by CPJ West Africa representative, Peter Nkanga, the group urged the police to release the duo, and to cease prosecuting journalists on charges of defamation or publishing false news
It can be recalled that Kemi Olunloyo, a controversial US trained journalist announced that she was arrested in Ibadan and driven more than 600 kilometers to Port Harcourt Prison for allegedly defaming the General Overseer of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie.
Nkanga noted that the controversial Instagram post that was published on Olunloyo’s handle and on Samuel Welson’s daily regional tabloid had already been withdrawn from further public circulation.
He also said that there was documentary evidence to show that when Olunloyo published the letter, she indicated that neither Pastor David Ibiyeomie nor actress Iyabo Ojo responded to her request for comment
In condemning the continued detention of the two journalists in maximum security prison in Port-Harcourt, Nkanga said that defamation allegations should remain civil matter and not treated like a criminal offence that would warrant detention in prison.
The statement reads in part: “We call on Nigerian authorities to release Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo and Samuel Welson without condition or charge, and to cease prosecuting journalists on charges of defamation or publishing false news.
“Defamation allegations should never be a criminal matter.
“Besides, the controversial post has since been removed from Olunloyo’s Instagram.
“Again, a legal document CPJ has reviewed indicates that when she published the letter, Omololu-Olunloyo wrote that neither the pastor nor the woman had responded to her request for comment.”
Police rescues another man from jumping into the Lagoon
The rate at which Lagossians are deciding to take their lives is alarming and disturbing. The Nigerian Police has again rescued another man attempting to end his life in the Lagos lagoon.
After rescuing two people and retrieving two dead bodies from the Lagos Lagoon, the Nigerian Police has again rescued another man attempting to end his own life.
The Security operatives, on Sunday, March 27, reportedly rescued an elderly man who was about to plunge into the Lagos lagoon to end his sorrows.
This is the third person to be rescued from jumping into the lagoon in the last one week, two other dead bodies, including that of Doctor Allwell Orji, who jumped in on Sunday, March 19, were recovered.
According to the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, last week lamented the rate at which people commit suicide in the country, describing it as worrisome.
He said the police has begun patrol of bridges across the state to forestall other cases of suicide.
He added that it was now an offence for individuals to walk on bridges in the state and no vehicle would be allowed to stop on any bridge in the state henceforth in order to prevent suicide attempts.

President Xi Thu strongly condemned #Londonattack in message of condolences to Queen Elizabeth II, said China opposes all forms of terrorism
Xi Jinping, the Chinese president, has "strongly condemned" the terror attack in London in a "telegram of sympathy" he sent to Queen Elizabeth, China Correspondent Neil Connor reports from Beijing.
Mr Xi "strongly condemned the terror attack incident, expressed deep condolences to the innocent victims, and expressed his sincere sympathy to the injured and relatives of the dead," state broadcaster CCTV reported.
The Chinese president said terrorism is the enemy of the international community, and that China is against terrorism in all its forms, the report said. Mr Xi said Beijing was willing to strengthen cooperation with the international community to make positive efforts to defend the security of China, the UK and the world.
Li Keqiang, the Chinese prime minister, had earlier said the attack was the first subject of discussion when he met with Malcolm Turnbull, the prime minister of Australia, in Canberra on Thursday morning.
According to AP, Mr Li said: "Together, we send our condolences to the prime minister of the UK and together we condemn terrorism and we stand against all forms of terrorism.
London attack: Tributes to officer killed by 'sick and depraved' terrorist as police probe Westminster rampage that left five dead
- Five dead including police officer and London terrorist
- 40 hurt after being mowed down by car on Westminster Bridge
- Attacker shot by police as he rushes at Palace of Westminster
- Witnesses describe Asian man in 40s with eight-inch long knife
Counter-terror detectives are continuing to search for clues about about how an armed attacker brought death and destruction to the streets of London on Wednesday.
Five people were killed in the "sick and depraved" terror attack, including a police officer who was stabbed and his assailant.
Mark Rowley, Scotland Yard's top anti-terror officer, confirmed that 40 people were injured after the attacker - armed with two large knives - mowed down pedestrians with his car on Westminster Bridge then rushed at the gates in front of the Houses of Parliament, stabbing a plain-clothes policeman before he was shot by armed officers.
The officer who died was named as Keith Palmer, 48, a husband and father, whose bravery was hailed by colleagues, friends and the many MPs whom he was charged with protecting.

The three other fatalities are understood to be people who were hit by the car on Westminster Bridge.
Mr Rowley declined to name the attacker, but said police suspect he was "inspired by international terrorism" - and that they believed they knew who he was.
BBC Newsnight reported there was a suggestion the car used in the attack was hired from an address in Birmingham. However, this has not been confirmed.
Armed police were involved in a raid at a residential property in the city late on Wednesday night, with Hagley Road reportedly closed for about 3 hours from 11pm.
There is no indication that the raid was linked to the attack at Westminster. West Midlands Police told MailOnline "there was an ongoing police operation", and referred inquiries to Scotland Yard, who have not commented on the incident.
Witnesses described scenes of terror when gunfire rang out as the attacker approached a second officer within yards of the Houses of Parliament.
The suspected attacker was pictured being treated by paramedics on a stretcher, as two knives used in the assault lay on the ground nearby.
Paramedics fought to save his life and that of Mr Palmer on the floor of the cobbled courtyard in front of Parliament, with Foreign Office minister Tobias Ellwood among those who rushed to help.
"Heartbroken" former colleague, Conservative MP James Cleverly, paid tribute to the "lovely man" he had known for a quarter of a century.
"I've known Keith for 25 years. We served together in the Royal Artillery before he became a copper. A lovely man, a friend. I'm heartbroken.
"My thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of Pc Keith Palmer. A brave man."
MPs said that the terror attack could have been prevented if police on duty at a well-known security “weak spot” had simply kept it bolted.
Footage later emerged of the moment police opened fire after the attacker drove a grey Hyundai i40 across Westminster Bridge before crashing it into railings then running through the gates of the Palace of Westminster.
In other developments, another woman who apparently fell into the Thames was rescued and given urgent medical treatment on a nearby pier.
London Ambulance Service said paramedics had treated at least 10 patients on Westminster Bridge. A party of French schoolchildren were among those targeted on the bridge, with three injured.
Mrs May, who was ushered away from Parliament after the attack, was chairing a meeting of the Government's emergency Cobra committee.
The attack left a trail of destruction as paramedics tended to victims on the bridge and at the gate.
Witnesses said the attacker was shot by police as he approached a second officer clutching his knife during the incident at about 2.45pm.

Photos: Man caught on camera having sex with a motorcycle
CCTV near a university in Chonburi, Thailand caught a man making a slit in a motorcycle seat then getting out his manhood to have sex with the vehicle.
The five minute clip first shows him touring the bike park of the student quarters. He caresses several bikes then finds one he fancies.
He makes a slit like a vaginal opening in the front of the seat then gets out his member to mount it by facing backwards towards the rear of the bike, Manager Online reported.
Then, in the middle of his urgent coupling and much to the amusement of several giggling women who are reviewing the footage, he lights a cigarette. After having his way with the vehicle for about two minutes he appears to be disturbed, does up his zipper and leaves the scene.

The Department of State Security, DSS, yesterday night sent out a letter to members of the senate, stating that acting chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu who was rejected by senators today, failed the integrity test carried out on him by the agency. In the report, the agency said it carried out investigations on all the nominees for the board of the EFCC.
It cleared all other nominees except Magu who they raised a red flag on.
They alleged he lived a high profile lifestyle and flies first class which is against President Buhari's directive that no public officer should fly first class. The report alleged that Magu kept close company with persons with questionable characters.
Recall that last year, DSS also sent a letter to the senate accusing Magu of corrupt practices and highhandedness, causing him to be rejected by the senate in December 15th 2016. See copies of the new letter to the senate after the cut...

Apostle Johnson Suleman's lawyer threatens to sue Sahara Reporters for N1 billion, labels Miss Otobo’s allegations as false
The alleged sex scandal involving Apostle Johnson Suleman of Omega Fire Ministries and one Stephanie Otobo now has a new angle.
Apostle Johnson Suleman's lawyer, Barrister Osa Director, just waded in threatening to sue Sahara Reporters for N1 billion and also labeling Miss Otobo’s allegation as a lie from the pit of hell.
Apostle Johnson Suleman's lawyer, Barrister Osa Director, just waded in threatening to sue Sahara Reporters for N1 billion and also labeling Miss Otobo’s allegation as a lie from the pit of hell.
Below is his press statement:
APOSTLE JOHNSON SULEMAN DENOUNCES BLACKMAILERS.
The attention of our Client, Apostle Johnson Suleman has been drawn to the online Publication by Sahara reporters. It is with utter consternation and indignation that our client received the news that one Stephanie Otobo is claiming to be his lover, after he proposed marriage to her in 2015 but later reneged. The Story was based on a purported letter written by Festus Keyamo’s Chambers.
Our Client has not received any letter from the Chambers of Keyamo or any law firm whatsoever. Therefore it is a gross violation of the natural Justice principle of audi alteram partem to embark on a media trial of our client without giving him fair hearing.
However, anytime we get a letter from Keyamo or any law firm, we shall respond appropriately and adequately without the unethical side kick of undue media attention.
For the records, our Client unequivocally denies any amorous relationship with the said Stephanie. Her claims as stated by Keyamo is vexatious, malicious and a wicked concoction from the pit of hell. As it is customary with our Client he has never had anyone-on-one encounter with the said Stephanie.
Although sometimes in 2015, after a crusade in Canada, our Client received a call from a person who introduced herself as Stephanie, and claimed to have been blessed by the spiritual ministration of our Client. Further probings from our Client revealed that Stephanie was a night club stripper. Our Client insisted that she must change her ways, if indeed she wants to receive Christ. But she later complained of no other means of survival and pleaded for assistance to open an Africa Kitchen food Store.
Our Client being a habitual and chronic philanthropist, with a heart for the poor and the underprivileged promised to assist, and he did. After almost a year she later complained of being broke and business was not looking well and asked for financial assistance from our Client, which he obliged. Those were the only two occasions our Clients rendered financial help to her, and withdrew after some unsavoury disclosures by Stephanie and her reluctance to truly mend her ways, and embrace Christ.
It was therefore strange and gut wrenching to hear several years after from Stephanie, who in collaboration with a gang of five ,which include her Canadian based
boyfriend, Wisdom and a top ranking police officer based in Lagos State approach our Client and demanding a ransom payment of N500.milion , otherwise they threaten to provide a tell tale story of romance between our Client and Stephanie to the media and hoodwink the innocent public with the view of ridiculing our Client’s worth and integrity in the public eye.
As a principled man of God, our Client refused to budge to their cheap tantrums of blackmail, knowing full well that you cannot build something on nothing, as an amorous relationship NEVER existed between him and Stephanie.
If true that our Client proposed marriage to Stephanie and conducted a marriage introduction ceremony, we challenged her to provide evidence of the occasion, either photographs or video clips.
Who were the Family members present at the occasion? Where was the ceremony conducted?
We have since contacted the father of Stephanie, one Revered Benson Otobo, who pastors a church in Warri and have businesses in Lagos and Abuja. He described his daughter as ‘wayward and desperate to make money’ He said he was not even aware that Stephanie was in Nigeria and thoroughly denied any marriage introduction ceremony, saying that Apostle Suleman never came to his house, or family home to introduce himself as suitor to his daughter.
He emphatically disassociated himself from whatever blackmailing scheme the daughter is engaged in, ‘I want to clearly state that I am not a part of her gang of blackmailers or a party to her desperate money making scheme’
Stephanie and her gang has since been arrested by the Nigeria Police as they were also recorded on tape disclosing their links with the dreaded terrorist gang, Boko Haram. They threatened to unleash Boko Harem and kill Apostle Suleman. As agents of terrorism, the Police is investigating the depth of their involvement in the several terrorist attacks in the country.
That is beside the charges of blackmail and attempt to extort money from Apostle Suleman.
We have our Clients instruction to demand a retraction of the story from sahara reporters and publication of an apology letter seven days from today. We are also demanding one billion naira compensation as damages.
Our Client will never and shall never succumb to blackmailers and their antics, no matter how highly placed.
