Rivers: Thousands of APC members march to Police Headquarters to protest illegal arrest

Members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State have cautioned the State Police Command to desist from arresting and intimidating members of their party.
The APC chieftains in the state gave the caution when they led thousands of party members to the Rivers State Government House from where they proceeded to the Police Headquarters in Port Harcourt.
The protest is coming after the state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi held a media conference where he accused the police of bias, an allegation the force promptly denied.
However, holding on to the same claim, the protesters accused the Police Command in the state of being partisan.
Leader of the protest and Assistant National Secretary of the APC, Oji Ngorfa complained about the undue arrests and intimidation of members of the party in the state.
He said, “we need to be assured of our safety. We are all Nigerians. No one is more Nigerian than the other because of his political party”.
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Dan Bature, called for calm and insisted that the Police meant well for ‘all and sundry’.
Bature also re-affirmed that the Police in Rivers state would only abide by their constitutional duties, devoid of intimidation and illegal arrest.

It could be recalled that 5 chieftains of the APC from different Local Government Areas in Rivers State are currently in police custody.
