Confusion, anger as 34-yr-old graduate dies mysteriously in Ekiti

The death of a 34-year-old man, Mr. Suraju Muyiwa Fadaunsi, who died in mysterious circumstances has created confusion and tension in Ifaki-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The death of Fadahunsi, a graduate of Mechanical Engineering, led to a mob action that nearly took the life of Mr. Tope Adigun Omotayo, who was alleged by some members of the community to have used mystical powers to kill him.
Fadahunsi’s mother, Bimbo Yusuf, told newsmen in Ado Ekiti, the state capital,on Tuesday, that her son was “killed with a fetish means by Omotayo,” who she said had allegedly “confessed to using juju to terminate his life.”

Yusuf claimed the her family knew nothing of the cause of her son’s death until “Omotayo confessed to killing him after his burial,” and further claimed that “Omotayo had gone to collect sand from the deceased’s grave and cried that he needed it to ward off his ghost which he said was haunting him.”
According to her, “my son had reportedly died a few minutes after answering a phone call on a site he was inspecting in Ibadan, Oyo State. He was to be buried almost immediately according to Islamic rites, but just before he was laid to rest, some aggrieved friends of his asked the Muslims clerics to wait and allow them perform some rituals that would make Muyiwa’s ghost haunt his killer. And they eventually did so.

“He had come to take sand from his grave and he was crying that the ghost was slapping him.”
She lamented that “my poor boy had been searching for  job for five years now. His wife just gave birth to a child about 20 days ago. He wanted to start a frozen fish business in Ibadan and was planning to relocate to Ibadan. I still spoke to him on Wednesday about the development before we suddenly heard of his mysterious death the following day.”

The police in the state through the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Alberto Adeyemi, in reaction to the development, said “we rescued a man from a mob in Ifaki-Ekiti.”
Adeyemi said “a man was in danger in the community and we moved in the prevent jungle justice.”
