Insurgents Fleeing From Nigerian Troops Kill 50 In Adamawa

Boko Haram insurgents last week killed over 50 persons in Hong local government area in Adamawa state, according to reports from the state.

One of the residents in the affected areas reported that 23 persons were killed in Gaya, 17 killed in Fa’a, and 10 killed in Dang villages in Hong Local area of the State.

He said because of the current hits on the insurgents by the Nigerian troops, the insurgents have transferred their anger to villages around the Sambisa forest area.

According to the resident, the insurgents attacked any village they came across while fleeing from the Nigerian troops, adding that the troops are gaining upper hand on the insurgents as a result of the combined efforts of troops from Republics of Chad, Niger and Cameroon.

A vigilante source in the area who confirmed the incident said that about 30 of the militants attacked Fa’a and Dang villages in the area on Tuesday killing 27 villagers and burning property before withdrawing into the bush.‎

According to the source, the insurgents returned to Fa’a on Friday where they exchanged fire with the vigilantes, killing a vigilante member and two civilians while they lost two of their fighters.

“They rode on 10 motorcycles on Tuesday and opened fire on residents, killing 17 men and a woman. I saw all the corpses in Fa’a. They also attacked Dang on the same day where they burnt houses and barns but there was no casualty because the villagers had fled. The insurgents mobilised again and launched fresh attack on Fa’a last Friday and killed 10 but luckily enough we were alerted on time, so we rushed to the village and engaged them at the football pitch, killing two of them while we lost a member”, the vigilante leader said.‎

A resident, Yusu Gaya, said during the Friday siege, the armed insurgents who came from the direction of Chibok arrived the town around 4pm on about 30 motorcycles and a Hilux van before they were repelled by the vigilantes.

He added that soldiers were deployed to the area in the evening and have since embarked on joint operation with the vigilantes with a view to tracking the insurgents.
