$75m Loan: Buhari has rewarded Oshiomhole’s nuisance – Analyst

The letter forward by President Muhammadu Buhari to the senate requesting the house to approve the loan of $75million for the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole for Development Policy Operation has been greeted with criticism from experts.

A public commentator and media veteran, Uche Ezechukwu in a statement described it as needless.
The Senate had on Tuesday, received a letter from Buhari seeking approval for a request of 75 million dollar, N14.7 billion loan from the World Bank from Edo State.

Senate Bukola saraki upon receipt of the letter read it at the floor of the Red chamber.
The President in the letter affirmed that the fund was for Development Policy Operation, DPO, a project meant to be completed in three tranches in the State.
“The DPO has since been successfully implemented by the State in 2014. Following this success, the bank’s board of executive directors approved the second tranche in April.
“The DPO too was captured in the Federal Government External Borrowing Plan of 2014/2017 which is pending with the National Assembly,’’ he said.
In a statement, Ezechukwu also the owner of Scroll Media Limited criticized the action.
“So, the fowls have come home to roost. So all these busybody “gragra” of Governor Oshiomhole has been allowed to influence PMB to forward his request for a foreign loan to NASS.
“Now PMB has rewarded his nuisance value with a request for NASS approval for a loan of $75million for Edo State.

“Say, why is PMB encouraging Oshiomhole whose government is on the way out to pile further debts on his State?
“What parameters made PMB to reverse the assessment of the last finance minister on the propriety of the loan without the input of another finance minister? Is it just emotion?” he said.
