I don’t like money – Amaechi

Former Rivers Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has revealed that the battle for supremacy between him and the former President Goodluck Jonathan was only premised on his desire for more money.
He also dismissed a growing perception of him displaying kleptomaniac traits.
The former Director General of the President Muhammadu Buhari during the general election spoke at a dinner reception organized in his honor by his supporters in Abuja on Sunday August 2.
Amaechi has been in the news, linked with several acts of financial recklessness during his tenure as Rivers Governor and was quick to deny any trait or character of thievery and insisted that his primary intention for staging the supremacy battle with Jonathan was only to get more money from the Federal Government’s subsidy.
“Only god knows that if there is one thing I don’t like, its money, if you are close to me, you would know I don’t like money.

“I can tell you how the trouble between me and Jonathan started, as chairman of governors forum, the oil subsidy was N300billion under president obasanjo it still remain at N300billion.
“Within 6 months of Jonathan administration, oil subsidy rose from N300billion to N1.9 trillion. As the chairman of the governors’ forum, I was determined to get my own share of the N1.9trillion.
“Anybody who is close to me and tells you I like money needs to go and report before God. I never insulted the President; I only disagreed with the President.”
Current Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, advised Buhari not to give Amaechi any appointment in his cabinet because of the corrupt legacies he left behind in Rivers, adding that appointing Amachi would be an endorsement of corruption. He went ahead to tag Amaechi as the most corrupt Government official in the country.
Wike advised that for Buhari’s anti-corruption campaign to be successful, he had to distance himself and his administration from the likes of Amaechi.
“If Buhari is sincere in his fight against corruption, let him probe the Amaechi’s government and he will discover that there cannot be a government official that is more corrupt than Amaechi.
“A man like Amaechi must not be allowed to flaunt the fruits of his crime with impunity. He has to account for the monthly allocations he received in 8 years and the IGRs for the same period. He spirited so much out of the system with little or nothing to show for it.”
Reacting to the barrage of allegations from Wike bordering on financial recklessness, Amaechi stated that he is less perturbed and assured his adversaries that no matter how hard try, they cannot catch him red handed.
“You cannot catch me of being dishonest.
“This evening I got information that Governor Nyesom Wike has sponsored one Emeke Nwoko in a bid to rubbish what we doing here. They know that the current president abhors corruption and the only way they can stop me from getting appointment is to paint the picture of corruption.
“I am not angry with them, my only anger is with Rivers people who know I don’t like money and I expect them to stand up and defend me that by saying this is not Amaechi’s character.
“I expect rivers people to stand up and say stop painting this man black because he is not that black. Appointment is not everything, once god is happy with me, I am happy with my life. The most important thing in my life is what God is saying.
Dignitaries present at the event were the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo; the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari; the former Bayelsa Governor, Timipre Sylva; Kaduna Governor, Nasir Elrufai, and the Chairman of APC, John Oyegun amongst other APC supporters.
