Sallah: Man sentenced to three weeks community service for stealing rams in Ibadan

A 31-year-old man, Idowu Ogundiwin, was Monday, sentenced by an Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Iyakanku, to a three-week community service for stealing three rams valued at N125 000 on Sallah day after he reportedly pleaded guilty to the charges.

According to d report gathered that Ogundiwin, who resides at 10, Ajeigbe Street, Ring road, Ibadan, was arraigned on a three-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.

The Prosecutor, Coporal Adeyemi Adenike told the court the accused with others still at large, conspired to commit the offences, stating that Ogundiwin stole three rams valued at N125, 000, property of one Mr. Muideen Ajelekan of SW3/368, Popo Yemoja, Oke-Ado, Ibadan and also a sewing machine belonging to one Olawunmi Edward, worth N20,000.

Adenike said the accused committed the offence on September 24 at about 5.00 a.m. at Automat Office in Molete area of the metropolis, stressing further that the offences contravened Sections 390 (3), 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Mr. A. A. Adebisi, the Chief Magistrate who passed the verdict, said the accused was convicted for stealing three rams after pleading guilty to all three-counts and that the punishment should be served in the community where the accused committed the offence.

He said, “The community service is to be executed at the court premises from 9.00a.m. to 1.00p.m. daily.’’
In his ruling, Adebisi said, “He is hereby sentenced to a three-week of community service, five days on each count from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. daily and the accused should be coming from the prison every day and must be supervised by prison officials while the serving the punishment.”

The accused’s counsel, Mr. A. Aguda, had prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, as the accused had shown remorse for pleading guilty to the charges leveled against him.
