28-year-old man sentenced to six-day community service for stealing pot of soup

One Abiodun Ojedokun, 28, arraigned before a Somolu Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos State on Monday has been sentenced to six days of community service for allegedly stealing a large pot of soup.
The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, sentenced the accused to 48 hours of community service for each of the three-count charge, after he had pleaded guilty to all of them.
The judgement reads: “Based on the facts of this case before this court, the confirmed report and your plea of leniency, I hereby sentence you to 48 hours community service on each of the counts of the charge.”

According to ASP Akinlabi Adegoke, the police prosecutor, in his testimony before the court said the accused, on the 20th of September last year at about 2:00 a.m. in Onipanu Model Market in Somolu, Lagos State committed the offence, adding that the accused is a casual.
Adegoke further stated: “The accused connived with some others, now at large, to break into one Mrs Gbadamosi Sanni’s shop at 2:00 a.m. They broke the locks and stole her large pot of soup, valued at N8, 000,” Adegoke said.
The prosecutor told the court that the offences contravened Sections 285, 308 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

 

Ojedokun however pleaded guilty to the charges and asked for leniency, claiming that he committed the offence because he was starving.
